Welcome to Hazel Glen Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten is part of the Hazel Glen Child and Family Centre which opened in 2015. The Centre is located on the Hazel Glen College grounds in Doreen in the City of Whittlesea.

The facility has four kinder rooms providing modern state of the art facilities for our community. The Kindergarten offers 3 year old Kindergarten, 4 year old Kindergarten and an Extended Care Program.
Our teachers design programs that reflect the five key learning outcomes:
Identity: children have a strong sense of identity
Community: children are connected with and contribute to their world
Wellbeing: children have a strong sense of wellbeing
Learning: children are confident and involved learners
Communication: children are effective communicators

It is believed these five learning outcomes are essential for assisting and developing children. This occurs naturally with ongoing collaboration between teachers, children and parents. Our Early Childhood professionals will:
Discuss your child’s learning with you
Ask advice from other professionals if they feel your child requires more support
Respect your family’s values, beliefs and decisions
Recognize that all children can learn
Support your child to learn by using the most effective teaching strategies
3 Year Old Program
The three year old kindergarten program consists of 5 hours per week. The program is play based, as this is how children of this developmental stage learn.
Our three year old learning through play philosophy consists of providing stimulating activities, planned and spontaneous during the session, both inside and outside with a strong emphasis on sensory experiences, play and exploration. We will also focus on stimulating fine motor skills.
The 3 year old session begins with free exploration of activities on the tables and at play areas within the room. We then come together on the mat for group time which may include singing, dancing, playing instruments and discussions. We then have snack time before heading outside to play. At the end of the session, we come together again for a story and songs before heading home.
4 Year Old Program
The four year old program consists of 15 hours per week spread across three days. The program builds on our three year old program and continues the learning journey for your child and welcomes and embraces new children also at this stage.
The session begins with free exploration of activities on the tables and at play areas within the room. We will then meet in a circle on the mat, with items of interest (provided by children or the teacher) in the middle of the circle to be discussed or any news children bring to share. This is an inclusive and welcoming time for children to learn to listen and respect each other as well as sharing thoughts and ideas with others. It is also an opportunity for children to learn about each other and themselves in a group setting.
After our group time, children go off to activities. Our Kindergarten environment (both inside and outside) has been purposely designed to meet the development needs and interests of young children. Children are encouraged to learn, interact, play, explore and discover. The children will be asked to work on either a specific task which is adult driven (intentional teaching) or choose their own activity.
At the conclusion of inside time, the children meet again for a group experience. Morning tea, afternoon tea and/or lunch is then had as a group before we head outside to continue our learning experiences. At the end of the session, we conclude with a story and songs.
