Welcome to the Term 2 video newsletter.
I hope that all of our students have had a fantastic Easter break and it has been great to see lots of rested and relaxed faces back at school last week.
I would like to acknowledge and thank our Junior and Middle school Captains as well as the Voices of Hazel Glen College for representing the College so well last week at both the ANZAC day schools service and dawn service at the Doreen Cenotaph. ANZAC day is an important day to recognsie and Hazel Glen College has always proudly supported this in our local community and thank Laurimar Primary School for all the work that they do in organsing this.
Our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast was a great success this week and it was lovely to see so many students and mums come in on Tuesday and enjoy a breakfast together before the school day. I hope that all of our students have been busy getting some nice presents for their mums and the Mother’s Day Stall was doing great trade all day. A big thank you to our VCAL students for organising and running the stall.
Our Year 7 Information Evening ran on Monday and we enjoyed taking many parents on tours around the College and showcasing our programs and opportunities across Years 7-12. We look forward to seeing all of our new parents and students in Term 3 for our 2024 Year 7 Induction Night.
Unfortunately our Year 5-12 Athletics carnival has had to be postponed due to the weather. Whilst we had full intention of the day going ahead after regular checking of the forecast, unfortunately, the Melbourne weather delivered more rain than was expected overnight and the track was deemed to wet and therefore unsafe. The sports team are looking at an opportunity to reschedule this event for later in the year.
Week 4 is Careers week in Victoria and is is apt that our Year 10 students go on work experience all week. Well done to all the students and families who have organised work placements, it is a really important and rewarding experience for students to leave the school environment and go into a workplace to learn what working life is about. Our Year 9 students will also be having their individual 1 on 1 careers interviews though the Morrisby Career profiling activity and this is another fantastic opportunity to learn about what careers and further education will follow their interests.
A reminder that Friday 26th May is a whole College Professional Practice day as directed by the Department for Education and is therefore a student free day.
I look forward to seeing you at many of our events either next week or later this term.
Neil Baillie
Acting College Principal
